Governors and state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the party’s next national chairman, following extended meetings and consultations that concluded early Thursday morning.

The official announcement is expected during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

The meetings were convened by the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and were attended by nearly all APC governors. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was absent, while Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno was represented by his deputy.

At around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the governors visited the Presidential Villa, where they reportedly briefed President Bola Tinubu on their decision to back Yilwatda. They later met with APC state chairmen to secure further endorsement.

Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate from Plateau State, was subsequently engaged in a private meeting with select party leaders that extended until about 3 a.m.

Sources told AIT News that the professor is President Tinubu’s preferred choice—part of a broader strategy to maintain religious balance within both the party’s leadership and the federal government.
