A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a 17-year-old secondary school student, Habeebah Akinsanya, was reportedly raped and murdered on her father’s farmland. The incident took place in Mile 6, a community not far from Ogun State Television.
Habeebah’s father, Akinsanya Aremu, a senior officer with So Safe Corps, a state-owned security agency, reported to the Kemta Police Station that his daughter had been kidnapped while managing a POS stand for her sister. Despite paying a ransom of N1 million to the alleged kidnappers, the young girl was found dead.
Her lifeless body was discovered on Sunday on her father’s farm.
Confirming the incident, CSP Olawale Famobuwa, the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta Division, Abeokuta, provided more details. He stated that the father reported his daughter missing on Friday evening after she failed to return home. Habeebah had been filling in at her sister’s POS business when she was lured away for a supposed transaction.
The father later informed the police that the kidnappers had contacted Habeebah’s sister, demanding a ransom. Although the initial amount paid was N30,000, intended to facilitate tracking the perpetrators, the effort proved futile.
Police efforts to trace the suspects led them to the Oke Egunya community in Abeokuta, where they searched until early Sunday morning. However, the grim discovery of Habeebah’s body was made later that day on her father’s farm, where it was revealed that she had been raped before being killed.
Famobuwa added that a local resident had seen a farm worker employed by the victim’s father leading Habeebah into the bush, but he returned alone. The farm worker, now the prime suspect, has since fled the area.
