The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the extension of its ₦20,000 monthly allowance to cover all indigenes serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) across the country.

The decision was announced following the State Executive Council meeting held in Uyo, and presided over by Governor Umo Eno.

According to excerpts from the meeting released to the media, the allowance is “intended to cushion living expenses and promote the well-being of corps members.” It was further stated that the “grant is subject to periodic review based on prevailing circumstances.”

Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, who confirmed the outcome of the meeting, also revealed that the Council has constituted a committee to engage with the management of key state-owned investments, including Rafia City Hotels (Four Points by Sheraton), to strengthen mutually beneficial business relationships.

The committee was given a 30-day deadline to submit its report and tasked with designing a “sustainable and efficient management framework for the Ibom Hotels and Apartments brand across Nigeria,” as well as proposing the establishment of “a functional and well-composed Board to oversee its operations.”

Last week, Governor Eno announced an increase in the monthly stipend for NYSC members serving within Akwa Ibom from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, effective August 1, 2025.

“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the governor stated, noting that the increment is meant to complement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance and help corps members meet their essential needs.
