Leicester City have officially announced the departure of manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, just nine weeks after the club was relegated from the Premier League.
The former Manchester United striker was appointed in November following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, but despite his efforts, he was unable to steer the Foxes clear of relegation. Leicester managed only six wins throughout the campaign, ultimately sealing their drop to the Championship.
Van Nistelrooy confirmed his exit in a statement released on Friday, expressing gratitude to those he worked with at the club.
“I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the club well for the future,” he said.
Leicester will kick off their Championship campaign on August 10, with a home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday.
