The Northern Senators Forum has expressed deep concern over the brutal lynching of travelers in the Uromi area of Edo State, where victims were accused of being criminals and murdered by a mob.

In a statement signed by Chairman Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the forum condemned the killings, describing them as a violation of fundamental human rights. “The Northern Senators Forum is deeply disturbed and saddened by the gruesome mob killings of innocent Nigerians in Uromi, Edo State, on Thursday, 27th March 2025. These individuals, who were traveling to the Northern part of Nigeria, were tragically stereotyped as Fulani kidnappers and brutally murdered in a despicable manner.”

The forum called on the Edo State Government to take immediate action. “We strongly condemn this heinous act. We urge the Edo State Government to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of this gruesome murder.”

Commending President Bola Tinubu for ordering a thorough police investigation, the senators stressed the need for justice and respect for human rights. “We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, with a view to arresting the culprits. This swift action demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting the rights of all citizens.”

Citing Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, the forum reiterated that every citizen has the right to freedom of movement and residence. “We must uphold these fundamental principles and ensure that all citizens are treated with dignity and respect.”
