A proposed constitutional amendment that aims to strip the Vice President, state governors, and their deputies of immunity has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, sponsored by Solomon Bob, a lawmaker from Rivers State representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seeks to enhance accountability in public office by eliminating legal protections currently afforded to these high-ranking officials.
During Wednesday’s plenary session, lawmakers deliberated on the implications of the proposed amendment before it advanced to the next stage of legislative consideration.
If enacted, the bill would pave the way for sitting vice presidents, governors, and deputy governors to face legal proceedings while in office.
Further developments on the bill’s progress are expected in subsequent legislative sessions.
