APC Blames Governor Fubara for Rivers State Crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being responsible for the ongoing crisis in the state.

Felix Morka, the APC’s spokesperson, stated that the constitutional crisis in Rivers State was instigated by Governor Fubara.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Saturday, Morka dismissed claims that Nigeria’s democracy was under threat.

“First, our democracy is not crumbling—there is nothing crumbling about Nigeria’s democracy. Secondly, there is no constitutional crisis in Nigeria today,” he asserted.

According to Morka, the only constitutional crisis occurred in Rivers State until the declaration of a state of emergency, which he claimed was “initiated, authored, and precipitated” by Governor Fubara.

“I have listened very carefully to many analysts and speakers, including those who have appeared on your program. While some have good intentions, the problem is that they overlook the critical, factual basis of this crisis,” he said.

Morka argued that analysts, lawyers, and commentators had failed to address the root cause of the conflict in the state.

“This is because if you get that wrong, then forever, you will reach the wrong conclusion about what is happening,” he noted.

Explaining the situation, Morka said, “A governor was elected, and shortly after his election, he sought to take control by replacing the Speaker of the House of Assembly.”

While acknowledging that many governors attempt to install a speaker they can work with, Morka pointed out that Fubara faced resistance from lawmakers who stood their ground.

“When his plan failed, he went on a rampage to destroy the Rivers Assembly, thereby creating problems for himself,” Morka alleged.

He maintained that Governor Fubara was solely responsible for the crisis, stating, “Nobody but Fubara is to blame for the problems he is currently facing.”
