Premier League club Bournemouth have set their sights on Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as a potential replacement for Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose loan spell is set to expire at the end of the season.
According to Pulse Sports, Bournemouth are already exploring options for a new number one, with Okoye emerging as a top target under the club’s new transfer strategist, Tiago Pinto, formerly of AS Roma.
Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, reporting via Sportitalia Mercato, revealed that Bournemouth are monitoring Okoye, though discussions remain in the early stages with no formal negotiations yet.
The Udinese shot-stopper has been steadily building a strong reputation in Serie A, showcasing his shot-stopping abilities and composure despite fierce competition for the starting role.
Okoye, who has drawn inspiration from goalkeeping greats like Dida, has openly studied top keepers to refine his skills.
“Best goalkeeper in the world today? Difficult to say. I study Ter Stegen for build-up play, Ederson for performance, and Courtois for saves,” he said in an interview with The Italian Football Podcast.
Despite his rising profile in Italy, Okoye was omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda, with newly appointed Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle favoring Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa), Amas Obasogie (Singida Blackstars, Tanzania), and Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars, Nigeria).
For now, Okoye remains focused on his club career, but with Bournemouth’s interest growing, a return to the Premier League could offer him the perfect stage to prove his worth.
