The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL), through its subsidiary NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML) and joint venture partner NIPCO Gas Ltd, has signed a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd for the supply of natural gas to a planned LNG plant in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State.
In a statement, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, described the agreement as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s gas sector and accelerate industrial growth.
Under the terms of the deal, the NGML-NIPCO Unincorporated Joint Venture will supply 80 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas to the Ssonic Petroleum LNG plant over the next 20 years.
“This agreement aligns with our vision to deepen domestic gas utilization, enhance energy security, and position natural gas as the fuel of choice for Nigeria’s economic transformation,” the statement read.
According to NNPC Ltd, the partnership is also expected to advance Nigeria’s energy transition agenda by promoting gas as a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative fuel.
“Gas remains a crucial component in reducing carbon emissions and achieving global climate goals. This deal is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader commitment to boosting local gas infrastructure, attracting investments, and ensuring that Nigeria harnesses its vast gas resources to drive sustainable economic development,” Soneye added.
