David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, imposed disciplinary actions on 14 students for various offenses, including examination misconduct, theft, and poor academic performance.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, made the announcement during the institution’s 4th matriculation ceremony held on Saturday.
He revealed that two students were expelled for examination malpractice, three received one-year suspensions for theft, and five others were given one-semester suspensions for the same offense.
Additionally, three students were withdrawn for failing to meet academic standards.
Prof. Uneke emphasized the importance of discipline, urging students to remain focused on their studies and avoid any actions that could jeopardize their academic careers.
He reiterated that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy for antisocial behavior.
“We maintain very strict discipline, and the university’s rules and regulations are unforgiving when violated,” he said.
“Between the last matriculation and now, the Senate of the University has approved disciplinary actions against a total of 14 students based on the severity of their offenses,” he continued.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the university’s growth, noting that the institution, which began in 2021 with just 26 students, now boasts a student population of 2,496.
He further disclosed that 990 new students were admitted in 2025.
In addition to academic and disciplinary matters, Prof. Uneke announced that the university’s Cancer Centre, which became fully operational in 2024, had treated 200 cancer patients from across Nigeria.
He stated that chemotherapy services were added in 2024, and the official launch of the centre would take place on March 8, 2025.
“The Cancer Centre is one of our significant achievements,” Prof. Uneke said.
“We are proud of the strides we have made in providing critical health services to the public,” Prof. Uneke concluded.
