The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested three individuals linked to the assault on its operatives during a power struggle at the Lagos State House of Assembly over the removal of former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

The DSS and other security agencies were deployed to the Assembly complex earlier in the week following intelligence reports suggesting that Obasa’s loyalists were planning to forcibly reinstate him. The security presence was requested by the Assembly leadership to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

According to security sources, some lawmakers mobilized supporters to the complex, leading to an attack on DSS officers stationed there.

A DSS source stated, “After extensive analysis of CCTV footage, we were able to clearly identify three of the suspects.”

The arrested individuals include Ibrahim Olanrewaju Abdulkareem, a photographer, as well as two members of the Assembly’s Sergeant-at-Arms unit—Adetu Adekunle Samsudeen and Adetola Oluwatosin Fatimoh. They were tracked and apprehended at different locations across Lagos during the week.

The source further revealed that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon be arraigned in court.

A leaked memo dated February 14, 2025, addressed to the DSS Director in Lagos and other security agencies, indicated that the Lagos Assembly leadership had received credible intelligence that Obasa was planning to forcefully reinstate himself on February 18, 2025.

Given the potential security threat, the Assembly management sought reinforcement from security agencies to safeguard the institution and its members.
