The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to bolster security and restore peace following violent clashes between political supporters.

The unrest erupted after a court ruling granted the All Progressives Congress (APC) control over several local government areas, triggering confrontations at various secretariats across the state. Eyewitnesses reported that suspected APC supporters stormed government buildings in Osogbo and Olorunda in an attempt to assert control, leading to violent resistance from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters.

Condemning the violence, the IGP vowed to hold perpetrators accountable. In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun reaffirmed the police’s commitment to upholding democracy and ensuring justice.

“The Police recognize that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the well-being of citizens. We are committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible to ensure they face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

The IGP further warned against any acts of lawlessness, declaring that the Police Force will not tolerate hooliganism or attempts to destabilize the state. He urged residents, community leaders, and political stakeholders to reject violence, respect the judiciary, and resolve disputes through legal means rather than force.
