The Kwara State Customs Command reported a revenue generation of N3.371 billion between June and July 2024.
During this period, customs operatives also intercepted 1,153 parcels of cannabis sativa hidden in fabricated compartments of a DAF truck with registration number T-25750-LA.
Customs Area Commander Faith Matthew Ojeifo revealed at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday that the truck was stopped along the Yamboa Axis of Bukuro in Baruten Local Government Area on July 3, 2024, around 5:00 p.m.
“As the search proceeded, the driver, realizing our officers had discovered the concealment, abandoned the truck and fled into the bush to evade arrest.
This prompted further interest from our operatives,” Ojeifo explained.
The seized drugs, with a duty paid value of N57.668 million, were handed over to Fatomoh Popoola Abiola, the state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Additionally, the DAF truck, valued at N21.5 million, will be forfeited to the Federal Government under Section 250 of the Customs Service Act, 2023, which mandates the forfeiture of any vehicle used to conceal illegal goods.
Ojeifo also noted that customs operatives seized 110 kegs containing 2,750 liters of petrol, valued at N550,000. The total duty paid value of all items seized during the period amounted to N42,702,650.
