Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Monday, inaugurated the Chairmen, Commissioners, and members of the Sharia and Zakkat & Hubusi Commissions, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to Islamic governance and social welfare.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi DawakinTofa, the governor highlighted Kano’s historical and religious significance, noting its wealth of renowned Islamic scholars, Islamiyya schools, and study centres.
Commitment to Islamic Governance and Social Welfare
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the appointees were selected based on merit, competence, and trustworthiness, expressing confidence in their ability to serve with dedication and integrity.
He charged the Sharia Commission with fostering unity among Muslims across various sects to promote peace, stability, and socioeconomic development in the state. Meanwhile, the Zakkat and Hubusi Commission was tasked with implementing effective strategies for collecting alms (Zakkat) from wealthy individuals to support the less privileged and alleviate poverty.
Leadership of the Commissions
The Sharia Commission will be chaired by Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, with Malam Yahaya Gwani Hadi and Sheikh Ali Dan Abba serving as Permanent Commissioners I and II, respectively. Other members include:
