Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, approved the recruitment of 3,000 teachers to strengthen the educational system across Junior and Senior secondary schools in the state.

This announcement was made by the Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in Bauchi, Ali Gar, during a sensitisation meeting with stakeholders from the Bauchi Local Government on Thursday.

Gar explained that the recruitment aligns with the requirements for implementing the AGILE project, which focuses on improving education for adolescent girls in the state.

He detailed that 2,000 of the new teachers would serve in Junior secondary schools, while 1,000 would be deployed to Senior secondary schools.

“This initiative aims to address the student-teacher ratio gap in benefitting schools under the AGILE project,” Gar stated.

He emphasized that the teachers would be on the state government’s payroll and recruited from local communities to enhance accessibility, ensure effective monitoring, and promote community ownership.

Additionally, Gar disclosed plans to begin Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) for 9,000 registered girls within the next two weeks.

Each beneficiary will receive ₦15,000 as a registration fee, ₦20,000 as a first-term stipend, and ₦10,000 for subsequent terms, provided they maintain a minimum of 75% attendance.

“All necessary ICT facilities and skills acquisition tools for project implementation have been procured,” Gar revealed.

However, he noted that only 9,000 out of the targeted 20,250 beneficiaries have been registered so far, attributing this to logistical challenges.

Gar urged stakeholders to monitor schools within their communities to ensure teachers perform their roles effectively, fostering accountability and improved education delivery.

In response, the Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Mahmood Babama’aji, praised the AGILE technical team for their efforts in implementing the project.

He also expressed confidence in the School-Based Management Committee’s ability to fulfill their responsibilities.

The AGILE project’s combined focus on recruitment, community involvement, and direct financial support for students underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing education and empowering young girls across Bauchi State.
