2027: Obi-North Pairing Can Defeat Tinubu — Udenta

A political scientist and public affairs analyst, Udenta Udenta, has said that a presidential ticket combining a strong southern candidate with a northern running mate could unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Udenta made the assertion while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, amid growing discussions around opposition alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle.

He specifically pointed to Peter Obi as a leading southern contender, arguing that his popularity positions him as a central figure in any viable coalition.

“Any pairing today — a Peter Obi in the South and anybody else in the North — will beat Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

Udenta emphasised that while Obi’s presence in the South is “visible and manifest,” the opposition must carefully decide on a credible northern counterpart to strengthen its chances.

“The pairing in the South, what you have on the ground, visible and manifest, is Peter Obi, essentially in the South.
“The choice of who they have in the North is for them to make up their minds,” he added.

The analyst further linked electoral prospects to prevailing economic conditions, suggesting that public perception of the current administration could influence voting patterns in 2027.

“For Nigerians to hanker after the Buhari presidency is a testament to the failure of the Tinubu-led government… What matters is the living condition,” he said.

His remarks come as opposition figures explore coalition-building platforms, with ongoing talks aimed at presenting a united front against the ruling party in the next election cycle.
