The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has apprehended six individuals suspected of vandalizing public infrastructure at various locations within the nation’s capital.
The arrests were made during routine patrols conducted by NSCDC operatives as part of efforts to ensure security and protect critical national assets and infrastructure during the yuletide season.
One of the suspects, Salihu Mohammed from Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was caught in Life Camp, Kado, allegedly vandalizing armored cables.
Other suspects include Mohammed Gadahfi, Musa Ibrahim, Suleiman Yusuf, Ibrahim Mudassir, and Kabiru Sani. Items recovered from them include a street light pole, three streetlight bulbs, one halogen bulb, 24 perimeter fencing iron hooks, and a cut steel bar.
Additional items seized were nine shovels, three pliers, two spanners, two screwdrivers, a National Identity Card belonging to Kabiru Sani, two passport photographs, and cash totaling ₦13,200.
Parading the suspects, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, commended the dedication and diligence of his personnel. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating vandals and other miscreants within the FCT.
“My officers and men have displayed gallantry and commitment to enforcing law and order in the FCT and its environs during the festive period,” Odumosu stated.
“It is unfortunate that these nefarious elements are sabotaging the social amenities provided for the people of the FCT by the government. But we assure you that we shall not rest on our oars and will continue to protect critical infrastructure while apprehending these criminals,” he added.
The NSCDC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
