Nigerian music icon Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun is once again at the centre of global music discourse, following his appearance on American rapper Gunna’s newly released album, The Last Wun.
The 25-track project, which dropped on August 8, 2025, marks Gunna’s sixth studio album and his final release under YSL Records and 300 Entertainment.
Featuring an eclectic mix of global stars including Offset, Burna Boy, Asake, and Nechie the album blends elements of melodic trap, Afrobeats, rap, and R&B.
Wizkid’s inclusion has triggered an avalanche of fan reactions across social media platforms, with opinions sharply divided.
“Wizkid is no longer a normal human, he’s now a god!!! Jesus, see music,” gushed @GucciStarboi on X (formerly Twitter), echoing the excitement of many fans who hailed the collaboration as a cultural moment.
For others, the track affirms Wizkid’s expansive musical influence.
“Wizkid made me listen to H.E.R., Ella Mai, Damian Marley, Don Toliver, Bucie, Normani, Tay Iwar, Anais Cardot, Jasmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Skillibeng, Shensea, MHD, Ty Dolla, Swae Lee, Tyga, Lay-Z and more,” wrote @BigMallyX. “Tonight he’s shaping my type of music again to trap with his collab on Gunna’s coming album #TheLastWun… this is the reason why he remains the Most Versatile, Successful & Greatest African/Afrobeats artist.”
However, not all reviews have been favorable. A Reddit user, spaghetti-policy_, described Wizkid’s contribution as the album’s “worst feature,” while praising other tracks.
“My personal opinion: Best song: GP, most streamed song: Sak Pase, best feature: Offset, worst feature: Wizkid…”
Similarly, @abena_sarfowah on X posted, “Gunna has just made the worst decision putting Wizkid on that album!”
Despite the criticism, Wizkid’s fanbase remains unshaken. Instagram user @hii__lexy fired back: “Wizkid is a ‘Failed Glory,’ Wizkid is ‘Flop,’ but everyone keeps seeking Wizkid’s verse! Can your fav relate?? NO. WIZKID TODAY, Wizkid tomorrow, Wizkid Ayodeji Balogun Forever.”
Others took a more humorous route.
“This guy Wizkid no fit sing anything without saying she, baby, omoge, nawao who love help,” joked @boi_oroma. Still, for fans like @kviktoh, the verdict is clear: “This is the best song on the album, believe or not.”
While chart data for The Last Wun is yet to be released, Gunna’s previous projects Wunna and DS4Ever (both No. 1 debuts), A Gift & A Curse (No. 3), and One of Wun (No. 2)—point to a strong Billboard 200 performance. Wizkid’s international appeal may further boost streams across African, UK, and Caribbean markets.
Regardless of the split opinions, one thing is certain: Wizkid’s feature has placed him firmly at the centre of The Last Wun’s global conversation.
