Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has begun another round of project commissioning and flag-off activities in Abuja, barely six weeks after completing a 16-day commissioning exercise that ended on July 3, 2025.
On Tuesday, the minister commissioned the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam, Ushafa, in Bwari Area Council.
The facility is expected to boost potable water supply to parts of the capital city and surrounding communities.
The programme will continue on Wednesday with the flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to satellite towns, beginning with Lot 1 in Bwari Township, also in Bwari Area Council. On Thursday, attention will shift to Lot 2, covering Karu town and its environs in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The new initiatives follow earlier efforts by the FCT Administration to tackle water supply challenges across the territory.
During the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike disclosed that a fresh agreement was signed during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China to extend water access to satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.
According to the minister, procurement processes for these projects are at advanced stages, with assurances of timely delivery to improve living conditions in underserved areas of the FCT.
