Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared the Park and Pay scheme operating in Abuja as illegal. This revelation came during a live media session with select journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, marking his one year in office.

Wike explained that he was alerted to the scheme by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who reported that individuals claiming to be from the Transport Secretariat attempted to seize vehicles from his office under the Park and Pay scheme. Upon investigation, Wike discovered that private consultants were siphoning off 80% of the collected revenue, leaving the FCT administration with just 20%.

Shocked by the discovery, Wike assured that immediate steps would be taken to dismantle the operation, emphasizing that the scheme was illegal and had been operating without proper oversight.

The minister urged the public to report such irregularities to prevent further misuse of government funds.
