Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen returned to his roots in Olusosun, Lagos, to celebrate Christmas and spread cheer. Videos circulating on social media show the Napoli star giving back to his old neighborhood, reportedly distributing bags of rice, other food items, and tricycles (popularly known as “keke”) to residents.
Osimhen, 25, has risen from humble beginnings in Olusosun to become one of football’s brightest stars. As a child, he hawked goods on the streets of Lagos to support his family. His talent earned him a place in Nigeria’s U-17 team, which won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, setting him on a trajectory that saw him play in top European leagues, including stops in Wolfsburg, Lille, Naples, and now Istanbul with Galatasaray.
Despite his remarkable success, Osimhen remains deeply connected to his origins. He has often spoken about his upbringing in Olusosun and returned earlier this year with the CAF Player of the Year trophy to celebrate with the community that shaped him.
On Christmas Day, Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, a close associate of Osimhen, shared videos of the footballer’s visit. According to reports, the striker’s festive gesture was aimed at empowering his old neighborhood and ensuring the celebrations were memorable for many.
For the people of Olusosun, Osimhen’s return was a powerful reminder of his journey from their streets to international stardom, and his generosity further cemented his place as their favorite son.
