Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to represent Nigeria at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
A statement by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), disclosed that Shettima will engage with world leaders, top business executives, and development partners to discuss strategies for improving global economic conditions.
During his time in Davos, Shettima will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders and participate in various workshops and forums. Key among these is a workshop titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets”, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the WEF. The session, scheduled to take place at the Congress Centre in Jakobshorn, aims to boost capital flow into Africa’s frontier markets and promote sustainable economic growth on the continent.
A major highlight of the event will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, developed in partnership with the AfDB. The roadmap seeks to strengthen public-private partnerships to mobilize investments in Africa’s frontier markets.
Shettima will also attend a dinner for heads of state, government officials, international organizations, and 2025 Crystal Awardees, hosted at Kurpark Village, Eiger.
Additionally, the Vice President is set to co-chair a forum titled “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa” at the Pischa Congress Centre. This forum will focus on the private sector’s role in implementing the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, which was adopted by the African Union in January 2024.
Shettima will also participate as a panelist in a stakeholder dialogue on “Global Risks 2025”, which will address the increasingly volatile geopolitical, technological, and environmental challenges highlighted in the Global Risks Report. This session is slated for the Aspen 2 Congress Centre in Davos.
Accompanying the Vice President are key government officials, including Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, and Aisha Remi, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of his engagements in Davos.
