Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has described the removal of the petrol subsidy by the Federal Government as a significant advantage for state governments. He made the statement on Monday while inspecting various projects in Imo State as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his second term in office.
Highlighting the benefits of the policy, Uzodimma explained that the funds saved from the subsidy removal have increased state revenues, enabling governments to invest more in infrastructure and social development.
“In reconciling the negative effects of the fuel subsidy removal with the benefits in terms of socio-infrastructure, social benefits, and the ease of doing business brought about by the provision of enabling infrastructure, I think it is a blessing,” the governor stated.
He emphasized the responsibility of state governments to utilize these additional funds effectively. “It is a direct blessing, not a disguised one, to the sub-nationals because more monies are now coming to states. State governments must demonstrate to citizens that they are capable of delivering results, especially with the increased funds resulting from the Federal Government’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy,” Uzodimma added.
