The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced changes to its immigrant visa application process, set to take effect from January 1, 2025.
The revised procedure mandates applicants to make two visits to the US Consulate General in Lagos as part of the visa application process.
Details of the new directive were shared on the embassy’s official social media page.
The announcement emphasized that the changes aim to enhance preparation for visa interviews and minimize delays in the processing of immigrant visas.
The first visit to the consulate will involve an
In-Person Document Review conducted by a consular staff member.
This step ensures that applicants have all necessary documents ready for their visa interviews.
Applicants will be given the opportunity to retrieve any missing documents, helping to streamline the overall process.
The second visit, scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC), will involve an interview with a Consular Officer.
Applicants who fail to complete the document review before their scheduled interview will be required to reschedule their appointments, potentially delaying their visa process.
In a related development, the embassy announced earlier in July 2024 that its visa operations in Abuja and Lagos would transition to a new visa services provider starting August 26, 2024. This update was also shared on the embassy’s website and verified social media platforms.
The changes reflect the embassy’s commitment to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of visa processing for Nigerian applicants.
