Tyla Wins Afrobeats Awards as Taylor Swift Makes History at 2024 Billboard Music Awards

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) in Los Angeles celebrated a night of musical excellence, with South African sensation Tyla and global superstar Taylor Swift taking center stage.

Tyla, the 22-year-old Afrobeat artist, emerged victorious in both Afrobeats categories. She claimed ‘Top Afrobeats Artist’ and ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ for her hit single Water, solidifying her status as one of the genre’s rising stars. With eight nominations across six categories, Tyla’s double win marks a major milestone for her burgeoning career.

Expressing her gratitude, Tyla said, “This is a dream come true. Afrobeats is global now, and I’m honored to be part of its journey.”

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift made history by becoming the most decorated artist in BBMA history, adding ten awards to her collection. Her wins included ‘Top Artist,’ ‘Top Female Artist,’ and ‘Top Billboard 200 Artist,’ further cementing her legacy.

Zach Bryan followed closely with five awards, while Morgan Wallen secured four. Other notable winners included Shaboozey, Bad Bunny, and Drake, each earning three accolades.
