United States President Donald Trump on Sunday confirmed a full-scale military offensive targeting three major Iranian nuclear facilities — Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan — in a move that has triggered widespread alarm over potential regional escalation and global security implications.
The announcement, made through Trump’s official social media platforms, detailed the assault, which he described as a decisive show of American military dominance.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump stated. “All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”
Hailing the strike as a victory for U.S. armed forces, the former president declared, “Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
The Iranian government swiftly condemned the assault, describing it as an act of aggression. In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tehran warned of serious consequences, holding the U.S. responsible for initiating hostilities.
“The world must not forget that it was the United States that initiated a dangerous war against Iran,” the ministry stated.
In an effort to allay fears of a nuclear catastrophe, Iran’s Head of the Nuclear Safety System Centre confirmed that safety measures had prevented any environmental fallout.
“Despite the criminal actions early this morning in the attack on nuclear facilities, due to prior precautions and measures taken, no radioactive contamination or nuclear radiation has been observed outside these sites and facilities,” he said.
Back in the United States, the airstrikes have provoked a wave of political backlash, particularly over President Trump’s decision to proceed without congressional approval.
Representative Ilhan Omar, a vocal opponent of U.S. military interventions abroad, issued a strong rebuke.
“The strikes on Iran, ordered by President Trump and executed without congressional authorisation, mark a dangerous and reckless escalation of an already volatile conflict in the Middle East,” she said.
“Military strikes will not bring peace. They will only provoke more violence, destabilise the region, and endanger U.S. troops and civilians.”
Omar further urged immediate legislative action: “We’ve seen what happens when diplomacy is sidelined in favour of bombs. It only brings more death and destruction. Congress must vote immediately on Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Tim Kaine’s War Powers resolutions when we return to session. The American people are tired of endless war. We need to end this madness before more lives are lost.”
As tensions soar, the international community now watches closely, bracing for Iran’s potential response and the broader fallout of an already volatile standoff.
