Troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Operation Hadin Kai, successfully thwarted an attempted attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists along the Magumeri–Maiduguri road in Borno State. The troops recovered a significant cache of ammunition from the insurgents during the tactical operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osaba, the Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, made this announcement on Sunday in Maiduguri. He revealed that the troops had launched a strategic ambush, neutralizing the terrorists before they could pose any threat to civilians in the area.
According to Osaba, the troops took up key positions along the militants’ route and engaged them as they emerged from the forest on motorcycles. The insurgents, upon realizing they were under attack, attempted to flee but were met with heavy gunfire, forcing them to abandon their weapons and motorcycles.
The recovered weapons included two AK-47 rifles, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two magazines, 61 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, along with illicit items like marijuana and Tramadol. This successful operation disrupted ISWAP’s plans to carry out violence in the region.
