The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace in a recent interview with Channels TV, defended the President’s openness to criticism, emphasizing his democratic values and vast political experience. The DG stated that the President, having served as a senator, governor, and even in the opposition for many years, fully understands the nature of political discourse and welcomes constructive criticism.

“The President is a battle-tested democrat,” the DG remarked, highlighting that criticism is a natural part of governance. He further noted that the Minister of Information and entrepreneurs also recognize the importance of engaging with the media and the public in meaningful discussions. However, he stressed the difference between criticism and outright condemnation, urging that discourse should remain constructive.

The DG also addressed the timing of criticism, arguing that it should come only after the government has made a decision. “It is only when the government has acted that people have the right to critique,” he explained. Comparing governance to a battlefield, he suggested that leaders who make strategic decisions, even if flawed, demonstrate courage and responsibility.

“As a strategic leader, it is better to take a wrong decision than not to take any decision at all,” he concluded, reinforcing the need for decisive governance despite potential risks.

His remarks come amid ongoing national debates about government policies, transparency, and the role of the media in holding leaders accountable.
