President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged all stakeholders in the Edo State governorship elections to conduct themselves with peace and sportsmanship.
The election is set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president called on governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people.
“He believes in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders.
President Tinubu emphasizes that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” the statement noted.
Tinubu acknowledged the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) commitment to ensuring a free and fair election and encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate for a successful and peaceful electoral process.
He commended the candidates and political parties for their issue-focused campaigns, which address vital concerns for the people of Edo State, including enhancing livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development.
The president urged citizens to maintain peace and respect during the voting process and to resolve any disputes amicably through appropriate channels.
“Additionally, President Tinubu expresses unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials.
He urges them to remain impartial and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement concluded.
