The National Assembly is set to hold a special joint sitting on Thursday, June 12, to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour.
According to a statement signed by House of Representatives spokesman Hon. Akin Rotimi, the joint sitting will take place at the House of Representatives Chamber, National Assembly Complex, starting at 11:00 AM, ahead of the President’s arrival at 12:00 noon.
This year’s celebration is themed “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.” The programme will feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of National Honours on select legislators by the President.
The House of Representatives described the joint sitting as a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, highlighting the National Assembly’s role in safeguarding democratic values and advancing national development.
The House has urged Nigerians to use Democracy Day as an opportunity for reflection, renewed patriotism, and commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous nation.
