President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s approval to dismiss three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from Sokoto, Adamawa, and Abia states.
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read during a plenary session on Wednesday.
The affected officials are Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto), who were previously suspended over allegations of misconduct during the 2023 general elections.
President Tinubu explained that the suspensions had been enforced by INEC before the commencement of his administration.
He urged the Senate to act swiftly on the matter.
In addition to this request, the president also sought an increase in the 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
Following the submission, Senate President Akpabio directed the request to the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations for prompt review.
