President Bola Tinubu approved the reshuffling of the Governing Councils of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and the Federal University Lokoja (FULokoja) to enhance governance and promote national cohesion.
The presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, announced the changes in a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that the adjustments aim to foster diversity and improve the management of these institutions.
Under the new arrangement, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, who previously served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at FULokoja, will now hold the same position at FUOYE.
Similarly, Engr. Kayode Ojo, formerly in the same role at FUOYE, will transition to FULokoja.
“This strategic change is part of President Tinubu’s initiative to promote diversity and national cohesion in the administration of the country’s universities,” the statement read.
In a related development, President Tinubu also approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, citing irregularities in the appointment of its Vice-Chancellor.
The council, led by Ambassador Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe and comprising five other members, was accused of appointing an unqualified Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, without following due process.
The university’s Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, was also removed.
Onanuga explained that the Federal Government intervened to address the ensuing tensions between the university’s Senate and the council, ensuring that governance at the 33-year-old institution aligns with established procedures.
The government’s actions underscore its commitment to upholding accountability and integrity in the administration of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
