President Bola Tinubu is leading the 23rd Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja. The session, which commenced at 1:26 pm on Tuesday, marks the second phase of a two-day deliberation.
The meeting was extended into a second day due to a significant backlog of memos accumulated since December. Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, had earlier stated that the President was keen on addressing all pending matters, necessitating an additional session.
In attendance at the Council Chamber are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, and several ministers.
Meanwhile, during Monday’s session, the council approved N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs from February to May 2025. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, explained that this decision was influenced by discussions on the impact of recent U.S. policy changes on Nigeria’s health programs, particularly in combating HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.
Further updates on the council’s resolutions are expected later.
