President Bola Tinubu praised Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun’s appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria, calling her an inspiring figure and a beacon of hope for young women aspiring to excel across various fields and make significant societal contributions.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu remarked, “Justice Kekere-Ekun is a beacon of hope to many young women who aspire to break the glass ceiling and make a meaningful impact on our society.”
The President urged the new Chief Justice to uphold the independence of the judiciary and advance the cause of justice.
He commended Kekere-Ekun for her significant contributions to the judiciary, highlighting her distinguished family and professional background.
“Over the years, she has built a respected and incorruptible reputation within the bar and the bench, championing the cause of justice,” Tinubu noted.
“Her ascent from magistrate to Supreme Court justice reflects her exceptional talent, dedication, and unblemished record. Her commitment to fairness and humanity has greatly contributed to the Nigerian judiciary.”
Tinubu also underscored Kekere-Ekun’s trailblazing role, pointing out that she is only the second woman to hold this esteemed position, following Honourable Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, GCON.
He emphasized the need to reinforce mechanisms that uphold integrity, discipline, and transparency within the judiciary.
