The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has commended the appointment of Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the first female Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement issued by her media aide, Jonathan Eze, Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the appointment as a landmark achievement and a significant milestone in recognizing exceptional women in national security leadership.
“This is a historic moment and a testament to Ms. Adekaiyaoja’s outstanding achievements and dedication to public service. Her expertise and leadership will undoubtedly be invaluable to the DSS as it continues to safeguard our nation,” the minister said.
The minister also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his progressive leadership in promoting women to key positions within his administration, particularly in the security sector. She acknowledged the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the DSS Director-General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, in facilitating the groundbreaking appointment.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering women by placing them in strategic positions to excel in their careers. This appointment is a clear indication of his dedication to fostering gender equality and women’s empowerment,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim added.

Adekaiyaoja, a native of Kogi State, has been celebrated by colleagues within the DSS, who regard her as highly qualified and deserving of the role. Her appointment has been widely seen as a progressive step towards greater gender representation in national security leadership.
