President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi, have concluded their participation in the 2024 G-20 leaders’ summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and have since departed the country.
The summit, which took place from November 18 to November 19, 2024, saw Tinubu engage in several bilateral discussions aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms. Hosted by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the summit’s theme was “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” with key discussions focusing on sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental sectors, global governance reforms, climate change, and the digital economy.
The event brought together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and multilateral financial institutions. The G20 consists of 19 member countries—Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the UK, the US—and the European Union.
According to PUNCH Online, President Tinubu’s participation in the summit was at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
The Nigerian delegation was led by the president and included key government officials such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha; Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Abdullahi; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
