The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed a terrorist logistics base in the Yadi Forest, located in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, according to a statement released by the NAF on Monday.
Group Capt. Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, confirmed the operation, stating that it was carried out as part of the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch (OPWP). The attack was launched following credible intelligence that revealed the presence of a large group of terrorists and a weapons cache in the area.
“Intensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance confirmed the consistent presence of terrorists and their motorcycles in the Yadi Forest,” Ali said. “Additional intelligence indicated that the logistics base was operated by Kadade Gurgu, a notorious terrorist leader and ally of Dogo Gide.”
The intelligence further revealed that Gurgu had been providing refuge to prominent terrorist figures, especially following aggressive military operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
Following the intelligence, an aircraft, supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, was deployed to the target. Upon approaching the area, terrorists were observed emerging from under the shrubbery and fleeing as the aircraft approached.
The airstrike successfully targeted the logistics facility, which was engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke reported at the scene. Independent sources, including local informants, later confirmed that the logistics base was completely destroyed and that several terrorists were killed in the attack.
“The NAF, in collaboration with surface forces, will continue to maintain operational dominance through extensive situational awareness, regular patrols, and precise interdictions targeting terrorists’ hideouts,” Ali added. “This operation is part of our efforts to eliminate terrorism and criminal activities in the Northwest and North Central regions.”
