Team Nigeria Armed Forces emerged as champions of the 2nd Africa Military Games (AMGA) 2024, clinching an impressive 234 medals as the competition concluded on Saturday night.

The Nigerian contingent secured 114 gold, 65 silver, and 45 bronze medals across 21 sports, finishing atop the medal table. Algeria, the host of the next edition, came second with 96 medals, including 53 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze. Kenya claimed third place with 59 medals—21 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze. Ghana, Ethiopia, and Tunisia rounded out the top six, followed by South Africa, Libya, Uganda, and Tanzania in seventh to tenth positions, respectively.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Major General Abdullahi Maikano, President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), described the event as a milestone in fostering unity and cooperation among African Armed Forces.

“The games showcased extraordinary displays of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, representing the very best of the African continent,” Maikano said.

He emphasized that the competition transcended boundaries, serving as a platform not only for athletic excellence but also for celebrating shared values of unity.

“We have witnessed athletes from diverse nations transcending borders and differences, united by a common purpose to honor our nations and the ideals we stand for,” he added.

Maikano commended the Nigerian military authorities for hosting a successful tournament and urged participating nations to sustain the spirit of cooperation, understanding, and friendship fostered during the games.

“The camaraderie and discipline displayed during these games are powerful reminders of what we can achieve when we stand together. May these African Games inspire us to continue fostering peace, cooperation, and mutual respect among our nations,” Maikano concluded.

The 2024 AMGA served as a testament to the strength of African solidarity and sportsmanship, setting a high benchmark for the next edition in Algeria.
