A gas cylinder explosion at Tamal Filling Station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State caused significant damage to six vehicles, the state police command confirmed on Friday.
In a statement issued by the police spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the incident occurred on Friday along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road.
The explosion was reported after police officers at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters heard a loud blast, prompting an immediate response.
“The Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, working in collaboration with military personnel,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at the filling station.
The joint team swiftly took preventive measures to protect lives and minimize property damage, successfully extinguishing the fire,” he continued.
He added that six vehicles were significantly affected by the fire, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Sadiq-Aliyu assured.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in the handling and transportation of gas cylinders in the state.
