Vice President Kashim Shettima, joined key stakeholders, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, in Abuja for the launch of the 2024 Nigeria Hazard Risk Countrywide Analysis.
The report identifies critical challenges to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth, focusing on security, health, and natural disasters.
On security, the analysis underscores persistent threats in regions such as Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (North-East), Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kaduna (North-West), as well as Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi (South-East).
Natural disasters, particularly flooding, pose risks to 80–95% of states, with the report warning of significant vulnerability across the country.
In health, the study highlights national epidemics, including Cholera, measles, meningitis, yellow fever, and Lassa fever, as ongoing public health concerns.
The comprehensive research process involved 400 representatives from various sectors and organisations, providing a robust framework for addressing these challenges.
