The Senator representing Niger North and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, has congratulated Dr. Aminu Yusuf Wushishi on his appointment as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

In a congratulatory message on Wednesday, Senator Sani Bello described the appointment as “well-deserved”, noting that Dr. Wushishi’s impressive career record and unwavering commitment to public service have consistently marked him out as a dependable leader and patriot.

“This appointment is a well-deserved recognition of competence and diligence. Dr. Aminu Yusuf’s work ethic is never in doubt. He is someone who delivers on every task assigned to him, combining humility, dedication, and competence with uncommon loyalty to the public good,” Senator Sani Bello said.

The Senator further highlighted Dr. Wushishi’s vast experience and leadership record, recalling his tenure as Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area, where he championed grassroots development, and as Special Adviser on Political Matters (Zone C) during Bello’s administration as Governor of Niger State.

Senator Bello also noted Dr. Wushishi’s exemplary role as Chairman of the Senator’s Skill Acquisition Committee, where he demonstrated vision, integrity, and practical leadership that empowered thousands of youths and women across Niger North through various training and entrepreneurship initiatives.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the National Population Commission, stressing that accurate demographic data forms the foundation for effective planning, equitable resource distribution, and sustainable national development.

“The National Population Commission holds a critical place in Nigeria’s future. I have full confidence that under Dr. Wushishi’s leadership, the Commission will experience greater credibility, innovation, and reform,” he stated.

Senator Bello commended President Tinubu for his continued commitment to meritocracy and excellence in public appointments, describing the choice of Dr. Wushishi as “both wise and strategic.”

“By appointing Dr. Aminu Yusuf, Mr. President has reaffirmed his Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to meritocracy and excellence. This is a wise and strategic decision that has brought pride not only to Niger State but to the entire North Central zone. On behalf of our people, I extend immense gratitude to the President for the trust and recognition placed on our brother,” he added.

Born and educated in Niger State, Dr. Aminu Yusuf Wushishi obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Minna, in 1983, and a B.Sc. (Ed) in Biology from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1988. He went on to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (2001) and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy (2010) from the same institution.

He also participated in several professional development programmes, including the High Impact Presentation Training in Washington D.C. (2010), a Security Summit on Grassroots Campaign for Internal Security organised by the Niger State House of Assembly (2012), and the Executive Development Programme with Government & Management Services International, London (2013).

Crowning his academic pursuit, Dr. Wushishi earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2023.

Until his appointment, he served as Chairman of Senator Sani Bello’s Skill Acquisition Committee, where he provided strategic leadership in implementing empowerment and vocational programmes for women and youths in Niger North — initiatives aligned with the Senator’s vision for equipping constituents with sustainable skills and economic opportunities.
