Deputy President Senator Barau Jibrin, the Senate announced significant steps to investigate alleged economic sabotage within the Nigerian petroleum sector.
This decision followed a motion sponsored by Senate Leader and Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who emphasized the necessity for collaboration between the two chambers of the National Assembly.
Senator Bamidele highlighted that the House of Representatives had previously debated this issue and established its own ad-hoc committee for a thorough investigation.
He noted, “There is a need for the ad-hoc committees of the two chambers to work together to avoid duplication in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.”
In response, the Senate adopted a resolution to reconstitute the committee, now named the “National Assembly Joint Ad-hoc Committee to Investigate Alleged Economic Sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry.”
The upper chamber also agreed to notify the House of Representatives, requesting it to form a committee with an equal number of members to collaborate with the Senate.
