The Senate, kicked off a two-day public hearing focused on proposed tax reform bills, gathering key stakeholders from Nigeria’s economic and financial sectors.
The event saw the presence of prominent figures, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji; Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari; members of the Federal Executive Council; heads of relevant agencies; and the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, among others.
Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, reassured attendees that the hearing would be conducted transparently, with national interest guiding the process.
He noted that the purpose of the hearing was to review and reform the nation’s tax laws to better align with current economic realities.
The proposed reforms, Senator Musa explained, are aimed at ensuring equity, fairness, and inclusivity, while addressing inefficiencies in existing tax policies.
He urged all stakeholders and the public to engage actively in the discussions, stressing that their collective contributions would be crucial in shaping a tax system that supports economic growth and national prosperity.
