Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his commitment to positioning Lagos as a global hub for the African diaspora.

He emphasized the importance of promoting cultural exchange and fostering stronger ties with people of African descent worldwide.

The governor made this pledge during a meeting on Monday with the African Ancestry Delegation, led by Dr. Gina Paige, Co-Founder of African Ancestry, and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

At the meeting, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of preserving and celebrating African heritage as a cornerstone of identity and unity.

He stressed the need to connect individuals of African descent to their roots and emphasized Lagos’ unique position as a cultural melting pot.

The discussions centered on strategies to elevate Lagos as a destination for cultural tourism and a hub for initiatives that celebrate African heritage.

These efforts, according to the governor, will deepen the understanding of shared history and strengthen global connections among Africans.

Dr. Gina Paige commended Sanwo-Olu’s vision and expressed optimism about the partnership, describing Lagos as an ideal location for promoting African identity.

She noted the state’s potential to play a leading role in uniting the diaspora through cultural initiatives.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa also lauded Lagos’ leadership in diaspora engagement.

She described the meeting as a significant step toward reconnecting the global African diaspora with their cultural heritage, setting a model for other regions to follow.

The collaboration aims to solidify Lagos’ status as a beacon for African heritage, fostering unity and pride among Africans around the world.
