Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, strongly rejected rumors circulating on social media claiming she had resigned from office, labeling them as “malicious speculation.”
The rumors gained momentum after a viral video suggested that Odu had stepped down due to pressure from unspecified sources.
However, Odu issued a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, through her media aide Owupele Benebo, categorically denying the claims and calling them both false and misleading.
In her statement, Odu reaffirmed her dedication to her role as Deputy Governor and emphasized her unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
She urged the public to dismiss what she called a “baseless claim.”
“The Office of the Deputy Governor of Rivers State wishes to categorically debunk the false and misleading reports suggesting that Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, has resigned,” the statement read.
“Contrary to these baseless claims, Her Excellency remains committed to her duties as Deputy Governor, a position she was duly elected to serve alongside His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State,” the statement continued.
As a respected public servant and academic, Odu reaffirmed her dedication to supporting the governor’s efforts in delivering democratic benefits to the people of Rivers State.
“Her exemplary leadership and expertise remain invaluable to the administration, and she is unwavering in her commitment to His Excellency, Sir Dr. Siminalayi Fubara,” the statement continued.
The deputy governor concluded by urging the public to disregard the “unfounded reports,” stressing that she has neither resigned nor has any intention of doing so.
