Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury. The French international, who joined the Spanish giants this summer following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, scored in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Deportivo Alaves but was substituted after 80 minutes.
Following the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti reassured fans, stating, “He’s fine—just a bit overloaded. He asked for the substitution to prevent further problems.”
However, in an update on Wednesday, the club confirmed that after undergoing medical tests, the 25-year-old has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. “His progress will be monitored,” the statement added.
Mbappe’s absence could affect Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures, including Sunday’s crucial league clash against Atletico Madrid, as well as games against Lille in the Champions League and Villarreal in La Liga before the October international break.
Mbappe had been in fine form, netting six goals in seven appearances for the Bernabeu outfit before sustaining the injury.
