The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointments of Miller Gajere Dantawaye and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the substantive Commissioners of Police for Kogi and Edo State Commands, respectively.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani confirmed the appointments, noting that the current Commissioners of Police in the two states are set to retire. CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha of Kogi State will retire on January 22, 2025, while CP Peter Umoru of Edo State will step down on January 25, 2025.
Profile of CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye
Dantawaye, the newly appointed Commissioner for Kogi State, has held several key positions in the Nigeria Police Force. His previous roles include Assistant Commissioner (AC) Operations for the FCT Police Command, AC Field Studies at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, and Area Commander in Karewa, Adamawa State.
He also served as AC Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Oyo State, AC Administration at the Police Special Fraud Unit in Abuja, and Area Commander at Area ‘H’ Ogudu, Lagos State.
Dantawaye has further experience as Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations in Yobe State, DC Operations in Edo State, and Commissioner of Police (CP) Information Technology at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Profile of CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin
Otimenyin, the new Commissioner for Edo State, began her career in Bauchi State Command and has served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in various divisions across Plateau and Edo States. She was also AC Administration in Kebbi State and the Nigerian Ports Authority Western Port, Lagos State.
Her leadership roles include Area Commander positions in Eleme, Rivers State, and Mbaitoli, Imo State. Most recently, she served as Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration for Zone 13 in Anambra State and Zone 5 in Benin, Edo State. She is currently the Commissioner of Police Administration at the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja.
PSC Chairman’s Charge to New Commissioners
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), has urged the newly appointed Commissioners to demonstrate dedication and commitment to improving security in their respective states. “You must settle into your duties promptly and work towards enhancing the safety of lives and property,” Argungu stated.
He assured that the Commission would closely monitor their performance and provide the necessary support to ensure they deliver their best.
The PSC has formally communicated the approval of these appointments to the Inspector General of Police in a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
