Property owners in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, are calling on the Nigeria Railway Corporation to pay them ₦154 million in compensation, following the forcible demolition of their properties.
According to the affected owners, the demolitions were carried out without due regard for their rights, leading to substantial losses. They argue that the NRC’s actions lacked proper compensation and adequate notice, and they now demand redress for the damages incurred.
The petitioners emphasized that the compensation claim is not only for destroyed buildings but also for their displaced livelihoods and the disruption caused by the demolition.
As of the report, the NRC has yet to respond publicly to the compensation demand. Stakeholders are watching closely to see if the corporation will acknowledge liability or initiate any form of reparations.
