President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who died on Friday morning in Abuja at the age of 71.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the monarch’s death as a “collective loss,” noting his unwavering dedication to public service and traditional leadership.

“President Tinubu described the traditional ruler’s death as a collective loss beyond his immediate domain, citing his lifelong service at different levels,” the statement read.

The President extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Zamfara State, as well as to the late Emir’s family. He also offered prayers for Allah’s mercy on the departed monarch.

Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father. Prior to his ascension, he had a long career in public service, having served as a Permanent Secretary in the defunct Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State.

Confirming the monarch’s death, Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, said the state government received the news with “deep sorrow.”

Dr. Bello’s death marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of the Gusau Emirate, where he reigned for over a decade, earning respect for his leadership and contributions to governance.
