The Presidency on Monday called on heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to honor invitations from the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
This statement comes in the wake of recent threats by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions to issue arrest warrants against officials who fail to respond to its summons.
Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Senate Matters, reiterated in a statement that the collaboration between both arms of government is critical to achieving the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“The President’s Renewed Hope agenda is built on the premise of quick and efficient governance, one that brings tangible democracy dividends to the people without delay,” Lado stated.
“A critical part of realizing this vision involves a proactive, respectful, and transparent relationship between government bodies and the Senate in its oversight role,” he explained.
He acknowledged that MDAs may face challenges in responding promptly to Senate invitations due to competing official engagements but stressed that prioritizing such engagements is key to reinforcing the government’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
“Engaging with Senate committees is an important opportunity for agencies to showcase their dedication to public service and accountability, while further reinforcing the people’s confidence in government,” Lado added.
The adviser assured that his office will continue fostering constructive collaboration between MDAs and the National Assembly, particularly with its Senate committees, as a cornerstone of good governance and transparency.
